GetTheJob.com is a new job board that takes a different approach to job postings. The site is a vertical search engine or aggregator that gathers job postings directly from tens of thousands of company websites and organizes them into a searchable database.
All jobs are from direct hire companies only; there are no postings from headhunters or third party recruiters. There are no too-good-to-be-true scam jobs either.
If lack of scam jobs sounds like a side benefit, you probably haven't approached the large job boards as a job seeker lately. Try entering a search term at one of the big boards and look at what turns up. If you were a candidate who had to wade through such slush, a job board that claims only legitimate jobs would certainly be appealing.
Another aspect of GetTheJob.com that's sure to be attractive to candidates is that there's no searchable resume database. The company claims resume databases have become spam farms for the larger job boards. It points out how resume databases also have the potential to become identity theft feeding grounds.
But it's less about what GetTheJob.com doesn't have than what it does offer that's likely to interest candidates. For starters, the site has more than 2 million job postings.
If that weren't reason enough to make it a primary source for a job search, take a look at how the site is organized. From the first moments a job seeker is at the homepage, it's clear this job board has potential.
Right below two prominent search boxes--one for job description, the other for location--a ticker of company names with the corresponding number of job listings for each moves across the page. There is also a box of featured companies, and under each is the number of advertised jobs.
Information is presented clearly at GetTheJob.com. But it's the way the site takes this information to the next level that's different. As an example, click on any job title from among either the "Popular Searches" or "Hot Searches" category.
You're immediately given a wealth of additional information, and options. You can see all companies that are hiring, all locations by city and state, and all area codes where there are openings for jobs with that description. And you can do it all without leaving the page. What's more, all are links, which means a candidate can pursue a job search in the way that best suits him or her. It also means a recruiter can easily check out the competition--by company, by geography or by position.
This all adds up to what might be one of the most fascinating aspects of GetTheJob.com: The site truly takes job board layout to the next level.
If you've been involved with online recruiting since the early days, you probably remember when people talked about sites and whether their features were intuitive. That criterion sort of went by the wayside as the Internet evolved. It's almost assumed that today all sites, including job boards, are intuitive.
But guess what? They're not. Not by a long shot. You only have to look at GetTheJob.com to realize most of the other job boards have room for improvement.
